Stop the Comparison Trap

Hey Kingdom Builders!!!

It's been a while, but I am back and in full effect. Surgery was successful and I am grateful to God for my healing. While going through my healing processing, I was revealed two crucial things regarding efforts to legacy building: All walks are not the same and time is of the essence. In this post I will discuss why all walks are not the same and the dangers of comparing yourself to others.

All Walks are Not the Same

Each person has their own crosses they must carry and their own burdens they must bear. Which makes peoples individual walks entirely different. Comparison of your walk can be deadly. This action is not healthy and will cloud your judgment. When you engage in comparison, it impedes your ability to successfully build your legacy by causing feelings of inadequacy, envy, jealousy, and pride. It will cause you to operate in disobedience to the word of God. Thus, this behavior is not of God. Paul puts it best in 2 Corinthians 10:12. He told the Corinthians church, " We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise".

Comparison of any kind is simply not wise.

When your gaze is not focused on God and His plan for your life, your vision is hazy. To create and build a sustaining legacy you must have a clear vision as to what God desires from you and for you. In doing so, this shifts the human logic and puts the attention back on God and why He created you and His purpose for you. To have a clear vision a person must be healed. A healed person understands the dangers of comparing oneself to another as this is a tale-tale sign that your God given authority has been relinquished to the enemy.

As I laid in my hospital bed, I contemplated on various areas of my walk that I had compared to others and their walk. I found myself questioning my ability and my worth. In questioning myself, I questioned God and temporarily believed the doubt that the enemy was trying to plant in my mind.

After praying for clarity and guidance, God quickly checked my misguided thinking. What was revealed to me in prayer, was simple: Your walk is different and there is only one you, your calling is aligned with the purpose that I have for you.  Needless to say, after that encounter with God I stopped comparing myself to others!

Our callings and purposes were meticulously created by the Father and while there may be some resemblances to others, it is completely different. Why??? Because God has created each of us in a way that is unique. Each of us is designed to bring Him glory in a way that no one else can. He wants to accomplish His good works in each of us and through each of us (see Psalm 139:13-15). We are one of a kind and special!!!

End the trap of comparison as this is not of God, you were distinctively created in His image. You were created to be the light, so open your eyes because there is no comparing that!
